Sa! for violin and electronics “Sa!” (1999), for violon, electronics and tape is music made up of impressions, seeds, sonorities and more or less recognizable modes of playing from different times...other cultures. The violinist, light and mobile, is a traveler. His voice, moves throughout the concert hall, passes through different sonorus worlds and at times, leaves behind a lingering trace of this journey.
The electronic sounds com from intruments which can be bowed...marimbas, vibraphones, crotales, gongs, various string instruments and“borrowed” sounds from a range of recordings. Physical modeling programs were used to create virtual instruments which were then excited or “bowed” with samples from real sources. The result is a orchestra made up of real and imagined bowed instruments.
